Call IT Services on 0161 306 5544/ext 65544 when you are in front of the university desktop computer you wish to remote into so they can enable remote desktop for your username.
- Your University computer must be kept powered on to allow you to connect remotely. All University computers are configured to go to sleep after a certain period of inactivity so there is no need to save energy by switching off your computer.
- You will need to connect to the GlobalProtect VPN using Duo on the computer you are using to remotely connect to your University computer. GlobalProtect VPN: Installation
- If you are unable to connect to the GlobalProtect VPN ( e.g. if there are issues on home WiFi) please call the IT Support Centre on 0161 306 5544 for assistance.
To ensure your connection is secure connect to the Global Protect VPN. You should already be connecting to this everyday in order to access your email.

Install the latest Microsoft Remote Desktop application from your App store. This is available from the App Store (search for Microsoft Remote Desktop 10) or if you are on a managed University Mac it is available from Software Center from the Dock.
Once installed open Microsoft Remote Desktop.
In PC name enter the IP address of the university computer you wish to remote on to followed by :56224 i.e. 130.88.x.x:56224
You can find the IP address on the WakeIT portal.
Add a simple name i.e DDAR.
You will see your computer listed in the Remote Desktop app.
